  1. Throughout the journey between Lt. Colonel Slade and Charlie, both seem to have a large impact on one another as Charlie helps Lt. Colonel Slade realize that despite losing vision he has things to live for. Furthermore, Lt. Colonel Slade sticks up for Charlie and speaks up on Charlies behalf for having courage and integrity. Overall, Lt. Colonel Slade is an interesting character who acts tough and cold hearted but actually has a soft side, and feel pity for when he says that people die when they can't see. Fortunately, he is able to see that suicide isn't the answer and is very wise, since he is able to tell the different types of people without even being able to see anyone.

    1. I agree with what Eddy said. Charlie and Slade both need each other because Slade relied on Charlie physically and also showed Slade that life is not miserable and is worth living. Charlie relies on Slade because he stood up for Charlie for having integrity during the speech and helped him with his conflicts at school.

    2. I agree with what Christian said to an extent. Frank does depend on Charlie to get from place a to place b. But Charlie does not need to continue his services any further. He could have left any time during that trip and still get paid.It was Charlie morality that charlie depended on not frank himself. The only time Charlie depends on frank is at the end when Frank commends Charlie on his actions and condemns the school for theirs. But Charlie does not depend on frank, he was helped by frank.

  2. I really enjoyed Scent of a Woman. It consisted of two genres, the typical rite of passage idea that occurs in a prep school setting. These genres make the film refreshingly different from the movies I typically watch and from the ones we’ve seen in class together. I liked seeing the change in Colonel Slade as the movie advances, and how Charlie progressively changes his attitude towards the Colonel. Initially disliking and pitying Colonel Slade, the audience grows to like him as Charlie warms up to him and is mentored by him. Their cold and distant relationship grows to the extent that Charlie is able to convince the Colonel not to commit suicide, and later, leading to the Colonel helping to prevent Charlie’s expulsion from his prep school.

  3. After watching the rest of Scent of a Woman today in AP Stat, sorry Mr. Morant, I felt that the movie does a great job developing the relationship between Charlie and Slade. In their first interaction Charlie is unable to adhear to Slade's commands, for example CHarlie has been so formal throughout his years at boarding school that he is unable to call Slade anything else but "sir". The real turning point in their relatioship comes when Charlie finds the blind man about to kill himslef because he has nothing left to liove for. I found it really moving how Charlie risks his life so that Slade doesnt kill himself. And you can see how that interaction was intense for both men because they are both tearing up at the end. ANd by the end i felt it was awesome how Slade comes back to defend Charlie and become his gardian angle and save Charlie's life, just as Charlie saved Slade's life and showed him that there is more to live for then Slade previously intended.

  4. The film has lots of hidden gems in the dialogue that mean more than they first appear to. If you were to watch it again, you would notice very clever lines throughout. When Charlie asks,"Colonel, are you looking at me?" the viewer gets the sense that it goes beyond the literal. Despite his blindness, Slade is looking at Charlie, in every way that counts.

  5. Can anyone explain to me why the director would have added the audience cheering after the disciplinary committee's decision. I believe it was unnecessary, almost awkward. That scene didn't fit with the movie, maybe they could have just clapped, but that wouldn't have captured the emotion between Charlie and Lt. Col. Slade. It reminded me of one of the Harry Potter films where Harry catches that sphere while riding the broom and everyone cheered and ran to him when he landed back on the ground. Overall A Scent Of A Women was an excellent film, after watching it the film has become one of my personal favorites.

  6. In this film, Charlie plays a rather soft and lenient part. Do you think Lieutenant Colonel’s actions and aggression gave Charlie the strength and bravery to stop him from killing himself?

  7. I think on one level yes. Franks behavior made Charlie a more confident person. But I also think (As Frank states) that Charlie is a good person and would do so either way in any situation.
